We love directly heated triodes for their sound, so why not put that sound in the line stage circuit?

This is the Western Electric tubed version of The Line Stage... all the other attributes apply.. same 80% nickel coupling transformer... same 80% nickel volume control...

I am not sure what makes these tubes so special... the glass arbor, perhaps?  who knows?  but special, they are... not a hint of grain or glare.. almost too clean... and still beautiful... I wish they made a ten watt version to build an amplifier around... sigh...

this unit was outfitted with a WE 274 rectifier, of course.. for those that have not heard this tube, I compared it to every vacuum rectifier I could get, 5U4's, 5V3's, 5Y3's, 80's, etc, etc, etc... even the Telefunken mesh variants... and the 274 bested them all... now I know why they cost what they do... wow...
